3 ways to ensure you're inspired by your home Office

It has long been my dream to start my own business from home, so when the opportunity comes, I jump there. There is something inherently true about being able to make a cup of coffee on Monday morning, walking right into my office, and sitting down. Especially in winter!

I promised myself when I started that I would never let my office turn into what the office of my work had been – an uncomfortable, uneasy place that I was forced to stay in to make money. I promise myself that I will always enjoy going to work in the morning and that my office will inspire me every time I sit in it.

Here are some of the ways I have ensured that to be the case.

My dog likes to keep my company during the day, which makes me feel a little more comfortable while I strum away on the computer. So he and I often share a short break, usually, a 5-minute break every hour (I work in the old Post office, so I know this is the best way to stay efficient!) We had a small refrigerator for snacks, usually, fruit for me and a homemade dog treating for him. This way I was always fresh and felt like I had a good company with me.

I also went outside every few hours to really clear my head. We had a prominent door outside right by my office, so I could be outside in my heartbeat – it was almost like an escape, which I sometimes felt like I needed, but having the option to head out made me feel much better. While I worked I wanted to keep my curtains covered so I was not bothered.

Finally, I keep the room decorated according to my own preference. Usually this means keeping my paintings done in my spare time hanging around the room but also means quite often redecorating and changing color palettes. It stays fresh this way.

Maybe this suggestion will work for your home office as well. Good luck in your business ventures!
